Sweet (art Deco) Dreams

One of the key pieces of work is to unite the art-deco theme of the house with a herringbone oak floor.

The house currently has a number of different floor covering throughout the ground floor, from carpet in the in Study / Music Room, to the bakerlite tiling in the living room, to kitchen tiles in the hallway and kitchen and carpet in the downstairs toilet.

The oak flooring will be laid in sections to tie in with the clients budget and availability. It will start in the main living room and fan outwards into the music room / hallway / guest toilet and kitchen.

This work coincided with the installation of adding in Anthracite Grey Radiators to the guest toilet, hallway, living and dinning room, with pipeworks being buried under the floor.

One of the main challenges is ensuring that the floor was level - in several places the levels between rooms was uneven with a difference of 2cm in some places - so where necessary the floor was either rendered with concrete or for smaller swallower areas, re-levelled with self levelling concrete compound.

The herringbone design, although time consuming to lay / cut, will add that classic art-deco look and add an element of class to the installation. As each room is completed, the floor will be sanded using various floor sanders, then filled with a a plastic resign coating that will last up to 10 years.
