Using Reclaimed Materials

This is the first project of many for a large 30ft x 80ft garden. Apart from a Pond which has Koi Fish in it, the garden is a standard Lawn with very little else going on. The client has big ideas, but does not have a big budget. However, like everything in life there is always a solution and comprise to be found.
As constructors, it really amazes us the amount of perfectly good, re-usable building materials end up in landfill or being incinerated. What isn't often realised that often these materials if repurposed not only helps protect the environment but also helps protect your wallet as quiet often is the case these materials are either free or up to 25% of original new costs.
The driving factor in this long term project is the ability to deliver big project construction projects for a fraction of what they would otherwise cost - with not loss in quality or presentation.

This particular installation is the creation of both mounted wall planters and a walk under waterfall looking over the Koi filled pond.
The timbers used in this construction all came from a house demolition and are all old victorian roofing joists. They were thoroughly sanded before being cut to size and erected.
The slatted floor also have access panels built into it to house / hide the pond filters but also provide a footpath to walk over and get under the waterfall.
The walled planters are made from reclaimed flooring joists which were painted and formed along the brickwork
Apart from the floor, all wood work was painted black to unify the different wood patterns / textures and help make the plants / greenery pop visually.
