Sweet (art Deco) Dreams

As the Art Deco House re-takes shape, the client wanted to retro-fit a period solid oak door. The door came with all original ironmongery fittings, although time had taken it toll on them.
The door itself despite its age was in great condition. The only parts that needed replacement and repair was around the letter box where decades of water ingress had softened and rotted the timber.
The rotten timbers were successfully cut out and replaced with new oak timbers. and bonded in place. Another challenge of the project was to bespoke a standard oak frame and make it fit the doorwell.
While fitting the frame the opportunity arose to fit writing for exterior lighting and a new Ring Doorbell.

While the project was a success, the only thing we could not reconcile was that on the top right side of the door, there was a slight inward curve on door, meaning that a small corner of the door would not fit flush against the frame / frame seal. This is always the challenge with timber, it will do it own thing if over-exposed to excess moister or water.
However for every problem there is always a solution, which came in the form  of draft excluder, which closed up the 7mm gap between door and frame.
