Bespoke Shed

The second project we had was to create a 2 doored shed, that gardening tools and logs could be stored. The shed was created from reclaimed timbers (a previous cabin) and turned into this tongue and groove shed.

One thing we have found with many of the sheds we have taken down is they tend to rot in two particular places.
The first is the base; most notable the underside is in contact with the ground. To prolong the life of the shed we painted the understand with 15 year wood preservative and based the base on raised slabs with DPM between the timbers and slabs the core reason is to allow the timber to dry out and not be continually wet from the ground.
The second is the roof;  here we added a pond liner underneath the felt. Quiet often we have seen the felt fail and it has caused the roof timbers to rot. By putting a liner underneath, even if the felt fails there is still 1 emergency level of protection to the roof

Once the outer shell was watertight, we painted it and added a guttering system that feeds 3 x 40 litre butts which are plumbed together so that when you turn the tap on, it uses all 3 butts as a water source., which can provide up to 120 litres of rain water on demand.
After getting the outside completed, we then created a removable inner partition wall to divide the space and mount hooks to hang tools.
